Here’s the issue.
2SLGBTQIA+ Immigrants and Refugees face specific challenges when arriving in Canada, and often lack resources for supporting their mental health as they adjust to a new place. Some are mourning the loss of a homeland due to political violence and oppression. Some are missing family back home. Some are still coming to understand how their identities fit into their life in this new country.
On top of that...
It’s not easy to reach out to this community. Between language barriers, fractured communities, stigma, funding issues, and trauma, it takes work to get the support where it needs to go. It means networking with government and non-governmental organizations already working with this community, and doing direct outreach to places where we can make the most impact. This takes time.
We want to do this work.
