Frequently Asked Questions

Can I meet you before we work together?

Absolutely! We offer a free 15 minute consultation for you to meet us and see if you think we'd be a good fit for you. This is also a great opportunity for you to try out the online or phone platform to get a feel for it.

What should I expect from the first session?

Much like a first date, the first session is where we get to know each other. And much like a first date, you might feel a little nervous to start with. It's perfectly normal to feel a little apprehensive when trying something new. We'll get to know each other and talk about the goals you'd like to work towards. Counselling is a very personal experience, so we will always go at your pace

How long will we work together?

The counselling process is as unique and individual as you are, so there really is no definitive timeline for therapy. We go at your pace and address your specific needs in a way that works for you. Some goals can be met in just a few sessions, and other goals take longer to work through. Our intention is to support you in building skills and tools that you can apply to your day to day life so that you can be successful in creating the life you want.

How frequent will our sessions be?

Most clients start out with weekly or biweekly sessions and then gradually begin to reduce the frequency as needed. Sometimes you might even feel ready to take a break from regular sessions and just come as and when you need.

How are online sessions delivered?

Online sessions take place on Zoom, which is a fully secure, encrypted and privacy compliant healthcare video chat platform. Whenever you book an online session, you will receive an appointment confirmation email that contains your zoom meeting link.

What times are sessions available?

We offer daytime and evening appointments to best accommodate a variety of schedules.

I don’t identify as LGBTQ2IA+, can I still work with you?

We designed Our Landing Place to be a safer space for the LGBTQ2IA+ community by weaving queerness, intersectionality and an anti-oppressive culture throughout everything we do.

We warmly welcome allies aligned with our values to share our virtual spaces and become a part of our community.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit card payments (Visa or Mastercard) or e-transfer.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give 48 hours notice for all appointment changes and cancellations. With less than 48 hours notice, you will be responsible for 50% of your session fee. With less than 24 hours notice, you will be responsible for the full session fee.

Is counselling covered through insurance?

Most extended health insurance benefits cover counselling. Please make sure to check your plan's coverage (particularly which therapist designations they require) to find out your eligibility. We don't offer direct billing, but you will receive a receipt each time that you can submit for reimbursement.

Do you offer low cost or pro bono services?

We understand that investments in mental health come in many forms, including energy, time and finances. We strive to create opportunities for equitable access to affirming and competent mental health. We prioritize access to these opportunities for those living with multiple intersections of marginalization, particularly LGBTQ2IA+, BIPOC and Disabled folks.

All of our therapists designate a certain number of client spots for sliding scale. To find out if the therapist you’d like to work with has sliding scale spots available, please email them directly. We also have Student Intern Therapists working with us who offer low-cost therapy services on a sliding scale.

Our team of counselling interns provide low fee counselling through our affordable therapy program. For more information about this option, read all about the program and apply here.

Our Community Access Fund provides funding for low cost and pro bono services including support groups, therapy sessions and HRT/Surgical Readiness Assessments. To inquire about funding, please contact us.
