Hi, I’m Noah

(they/he)

Intern

You can expect a therapy session with me to feel like…

…a curious journey exploring how to get you more of what you want out of life. I firmly believe that you are the expert on you - and that I’m here to support you in your unique journey. You can expect our work together to feel collaborative, welcoming, and encouraging. All of you: your body, your pleasures, your stories, your messiness, your histories, your gender(s), and your dreams - will be offered space to breathe, unfold, and become.

Some phrases you may hear me use in sessions:

“This is your time. How would you like to use it?”

“You’re always allowed to change your mind!”

“Can I offer a different perspective on what you just shared? You can take it or leave it.”

I define my role as…

Frankly, if I could call myself a mental health 'cheerleader' instead of a mental health 'therapist,' I sometimes would. I know not every session calls for pom-poms, and I’m first and foremost here to meet you however you’re arriving, whether it’s a high day or a low one. My wholehearted perspective is that my role as your therapist is to help you uncover and realize more of your own strength, wisdom, and resilience. Mental health care and wellness is a critical component of living an actualized and joyful life, and I want to help out with a variety of tools, supports, and strategies backed by research and evidence to help get you where you want to go. That could look like cheering you on, offering a nudge or fresh perspective, or sitting with you in the hard stuff.

You’ll enjoy working with me if you’re…

…a playful kind of person or someone who loves blending science and deep mystery while exploring the body, the mind, and the soul. If you nod along to phrases like ‘don’t fix what’s not broken’ or ‘do more of what’s working’ I imagine you’ll enjoy working with me. And, if you’re curious about topics like mindfulness, pleasure, embodiment, or cultivating resilience, I’ll probably be a pretty great fit.

I enjoy clients who…

…bring a spirit of adventure or curiosity to their inner world! If you share this attitude, I trust there will be no shortage of ways we can work together to support you in your journey. Also, I really enjoy working with folks who love digging into practical tools - and practicing them - alongside deeper insight or depth-based processes.

I’ve worked since 2011 as an educator, bodyworker, and somatic sexologist in the field of sexual health and wellness with a focus on empowering LGBTQ+ community. Over that time I kept circling closer and closer to the vocation of ‘therapist’… and have reached a point where I wanted to formalize and deepen the support I was already increasingly offering - and now here we are! A note that as an intern I'm not focusing on sex and pleasure: any and all topics are welcome!

I’ve been told that my curiosity, presence, consistency, and willingness to go wherever a conversation needs to go have made me an invaluable help to others. Clients have also said that my interest in creating spaces where folks don’t feel like they need to be ‘fixed’ or ‘set straight’, while knowing they can access a wide range of supports (if they want) has made me a good therapist. And I believe that change happens at the speed of trust: that moving at the right speed for a client’s process is the most important medicine of all.

I am inspired by…

I find that my passion, endlessly curious nature, and willingness to embrace uncertainty has inspired me to keep diving deeper in the work and play of self-growth and personal discovery. Also, a core inspiration for growth is always responding to the feedback I’m receiving from clients, the world, and myself about what’s working and not working in my process.

I arrive to my work as a white settler in so-called BC. I identify as queer, genderqueer, and trans, and live with multiple sclerosis (an autoimmune disease of the brain and nervous system). Raised on a farm in so-called Ontario, I come from a working class background, am in my late 30s, and have embraced a blend of animist and ecosexual spiritual philosophies that inform me.

My own experience navigating a body that doesn't always cooperate with me has taught me a lot about working with what is: a value I bring into my work regularly. As a ‘queerdo’, I believe there’s no wrong way to have a body, a gender, or a life and I strive for that to show up as spaciousness in my work and attitudes. My working-class and rural roots also mean I hold practicality close to my heart - I firmly believe that wisdom is whatever works… I care about what actually works for your life and want that to be the guiding value I bring to our work.

I have introductory training and/or am informed in the following modalities:

Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solutions Focused Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Sex Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Gottman Relationship Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Attachment-based Therapy, Art Therapy, Cognitive Behvioural Therapy (CBT), Creative Interventions
