Hi, I’m Jenna

(they/them)

MSW, RSW

You can expect a therapy session with me to feel like…

…a break from the pressures to perform wellness, productivity or “being okay.” Our sessions will make room for all aspects of you, including the parts that are angry, exhausted, messy, contradictory, or difficult to explain. Together, we’ll name the systems that are limiting you and explore ways to feel more grounded, connected, and autonomous in your communities, relationships, and yourself. We’ll notice what is happening in your body, challenge the stories that tell you how you are “supposed” to be, and explore what healing and freedom might look like on your terms. You can expect warmth, curiosity, laughter, a supportive push, and a collaborative relationship where you get to set the pace and be respected as the expert of your own life.

I define my role as…

…a privileged opportunity to be a collaborator, witness, and co-conspirator in the work of becoming more fully yourself. I’m not here to “fix” you, pathologize your survival, or teach you how to better tolerate oppressive conditions. I’m here to listen deeply, ask useful questions, notice what gets overlooked, and help you to reconnect with your own wisdom, agency, boundaries and desires.

Some phrases you may hear me use in sessions:

“Does this feel like your belief, or one you learned to survive?”

“Can we slow this down enough to notice what your body is doing?”

What would it mean to build something different rather than endure what currently exists?”

“What would you choose if you didn’t have to manage anyone else’s reaction?”

You’ll enjoy working with me if you’re…

…grounded in social justice values, self-reflective, and ready to challenge the blueprint you were handed about who you are supposed to be. If you are queer, gender nonconforming, community-minded, and burned out by dominant systems of oppression, you’ll probably enjoy working with me. You don’t have to come with a clear goal in mind… bring your questions, contradictions, your anger and your tenderness, and most importantly, your desire for something different and we’ll start there.

I enjoy clients who…

…are rad, mad, creative, compassionate, and have a great sense of humor. I tend to connect best with artists, activists, care-takers, and misfits who question the rules and march to the beat of their own drum..

I love being trusted with the messy, contradictory, and deeply-human parts of people’s lives while getting to ask together “What if it doesn’t have to be this way?” More than anything, I love that therapy can be a small site of resistance; a place to practice autonomy, build new ways of relating, and imagine lives rooted in connection rather than coercion, productivity, or control.

I became a therapist because I’ve lived through my own challenges and couldn’t have gotten through without good support! I’m deeply curious about the human experience (“talks too much to peers” was frequently mentioned in my report cards….) and love to play a supportive role for others who are figuring things out and finding their way forward.

I can laugh with you! Healing doesn’t have to be humourless. Sometimes humour is avoidance, sometimes it’s a survival strategy, and sometimes the healthiest response to the absurdity of the state of the world is just a dark joke and a good laugh.

I’m queer, nonbinary, fat, and a parent, and I practice CNM. I’m also a super casual artist/maker, a personal trainer, and a community organizer/activist. I have my own experiences of mental health/neurodivergence and have plenty of experience accessing good (and not so good!) therapy.

My identities and lived experiences shape how I understand people, relationships, and the world, and also remind me that though we may relate, our experiences are never the same. My own experience may help me bring particular empathy and openness to conversations about identity, relationships, bodies, parenting, trauma, and mental health, but I won’t assume that my experience tells me what yours is like.

I am inspired by…

…the people who refuse to shrink to survive. I love when my clients teach me about resilience, creativity, resistance, and the many ways people build lives outside the boxes they’ve been given. I’m also deeply influenced by queer and trans communities, disability justice organizers, abolitionists, feminists, and people practicing mutual aid and collective care. Their work reminds me that healing doesn’t happen in isolation and that we can imagine forms of care that transcend the broken system we’ve inherited.
