You can expect a therapy session with me to feel like…
…a flexible, warm, collaborative experience. I want to be able to meet you where you’re at while continuing to move towards our established goals. This means each session could look really different; we can follow the agenda set together or we can leave spaced for the things that are feeling urgent or pressing. Our work together will never feel rigid, but it will feel consistent and in pursuit of your goals.
Some phrases you may hear me use in sessions:
“What did you need or what do you wish was offered to you in that moment?”
“Tell me about a time where things felt different.”
I define my role as…
…a supportive presence and witness to your journey of self-exploration and healing. I can offer alternative perspectives, tools and resources, and a space where you can examine your patterns, values, and existing beliefs. My role is also to encourage accountability and to challenge you. I’m here to help curate a space where you can practice vulnerability and strive towards change, while feeling supported and cared for.
You’ll enjoy working with me if you’re…
…looking for a space that allows you to bring your authentic self and set down the various masks you may find yourself wearing. I offer a gentle, warm space that I hope can offer some solace as we explore the heavy things.
I enjoy clients who…
…are looking to gain a better understanding of themselves and want to question the rules and standards imposed on them. I appreciate anyone willing to be curious and willing to try even if it means making mistakes. And of course, I’ll always enjoy working with my fellow nerds :)
I love having the opportunity to witness my clients’ growth and watching the way people learn to reconnect with different parts of themselves. I have the honour of sharing a part of my clients’ journeys as they go through so many wins and changes and beautiful moments of growth. And, I also love being able to offer a warm, supportive space for all the parts of the journey that can feel vulnerable, challenging, and overwhelming.
A lot of what makes me a good therapist is my curiosity and adaptability. I want to create a space that makes sense and is beneficial for you as a unique, ever-changing, individual so I’m always ready to empower you as the expert of your own life. While I value my curiosity and adaptability, I also strive to challenge, create consistency, and a sense of reliability.
It’s hard to even say what identities contribute to who I am as a therapist because it truly feels like each and every part of me shows up in some way. My experiences as a Black, neurodivergent, queer woman informs so much of my experiences and has painted a picture of what is needed in interactions with care providers. This pushes me to lean into curiosity and encouraging clients to advocate for their needs.
What really solidified the decision to become a therapist was recognizing the need for clients to see themselves and their experiences reflected in their choice of clinician. Generally, I love being able to provide support where I can, but I’m especially honoured to be able to provide it within my own communities.
My identities and lived experiences have consistently highlighted the importance of holding an intersectional lens in every part of my life, especially my work as a therapist. I prioritize holding space for the identities held by my clients and myself, and naming the privileges and experiences of marginalization so often connected to said identities. I recognize we will always have differing identities and experiences, regardless of our shared identities, so I will always leave room for the complexity and uniqueness of your experiences.
I am inspired by…
I draw a lot of inspiration to grow from my colleagues and peers within the field who so generously share their passion and wisdom, but are always striving for growth. I also take inspiration from my own life experiences and mistakes, the constant reminders that I will always have room to grow as not only a therapist, but as a human. Overall, I think I draw the most inspiration from my clients as I strive to grow alongside them.
