Grant Gear

Atelihai (Hello), I’m Grant (he/him).

I respectfully acknowledge the land on which I am residing, Labrador as the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu and Inuit peoples. I recognize all First Peoples who were here before me and those who live with me now. As First Peoples have done since time immemorial, I strive to be responsible of the land and to respect the cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home. As I open my heart and mind to the past, I commit myself to working in a spirit of truth and reconciliation.

I am currently accepting clients in British Columbia and Newfoundland & Labrador.

I am an Indigiqueer Inuit human, son, uncle, brother, social justice activist, and pom mom. I highly respect our queer community and will always be cheering for you virtually.

I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW). I graduated from Carleton University with a Master of Social Work (MSW) and the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW).

I enjoy working with children, youth, adults, and families. I am working towards certification of becoming a Play Therapist with the Canadian Association for Play Therapy (CAPT). Play Therapy is a psychotherapy approach where play is used to express or communicate feelings. Play is broad and may include almost anything and everything - puppets, art, sandtray, barbies, games, toys, beading, cartoons, anime - you name it, and it may be blended within the therapy process. Play Therapy may be used with anyone across the lifespan.

I am a certified AutPlay Therapy Provider. AutPlay Therapy is an integrative, family play therapy approach designed to address mental health needs of neurodivergent children (autistic, ADHD, learning differences, sensory differences, developmental disabilities, etc.) The parents and/or caregivers and family are agents of change with the child and are highly valued in the therapy process.

Other informed-models of clinical practice include:

  • Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Focusing-Oriented Expressive Arts (FOAT)

  • Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Developmental Model for Couples Therapy

During my personal time, I love spending time with my miniature Pomeranian, Koda. I also enjoy spending time with my family (especially my nieces and nephews) and friends. To end off the day, I usually have a game (or three) of Fortnite…ready up!

To get to know me more and see if I am a fit, you can book a free 15-minute online or phone consultation using our online booking system, or by contacting me via email.

Session Fee: $110 per 50-minute session. Limited sliding scale spots may be available. As a Registered Social Worker (RSW), my services are GST and HST exempt.
