Curtis Pittman

Hi, I’m Curtis (he/him).

Beginning our journey in therapy can be a challenging, exciting, activating, and nerve-wracking experience. This is why I approach my therapeutic alliances with authenticity and empathy. A warm, safe space provides the foundation for self-exploration and building new skill sets that help us through difficult times. I prioritize meaningful connections to foster belongingness so that we can feel empowered to venture into your internal experiences without judgment. Within this vulnerability, we can grow to meet our therapeutic goals.

I take an integrated approach to my sessions, pulling predominantly from:

- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

- Motivational Interviewing (MI)

- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

- Developmental Model of Couples Therapy

Each session and client are unique, and my goal is to respect this and collaboratively tailor our work to meet you where you are. My passion for connection is built on finding health and healing through validating relationships, and I’m excited and honoured to bring this into our work together!

About me:

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. In Newfoundland and Labrador, I am also a Naturopath with the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists of Canada. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.

My lived experience as a gay, neurodivergent man in a rural Newfoundland community has nurtured an empathic understanding of those experiencing oppression and unique life obstacles. I also recognize my relative privilege within my intersectional cultural identity, which I acknowledge and actively monitor in my anti-oppressive, affirming approach to counselling.

Although I’ve lived in Ontario and Nova Scotia, I currently call Newfoundland home and live here with my sweet cat, Touton. I often visit Ontario to see my long-term partner, his son, and our close friends. When I have time to spend, I enjoy exploring this country’s gorgeous land, socializing with those I call family, playing video and board games, and snuggling up to watch a good movie or tv-show!

I humbly recognize the island of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) as the unceded, traditional territory of the Beothuk and the Mi’kmaq. I also acknowledge Labrador as the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu of Nitassinan, the Inuit of Nunatsiavut, and the Inuit of NunatuKavut. I respectfully hold space for all First Peoples and strive toward responsible allyship through earnest self-reflection, attention, and action.
